Sony projectors use 3LCD: white light is split into red, green and blue beams via dichroic mirrors, each beam passes through its own LCD panel, and the three colour images recombine in a prism before the lens. Result: higher colour brightness for the same lamp wattage, sharper text and finer detail on data and spreadsheets, and no rainbow effect because there is no spinning colour wheel.
