When the lamp glows but nothing reaches the screen, the projector is alive at the power stage but failing at the signal stage. The picture is built three steps at a time: the input board decodes HDMI or VGA, the formatter chip sends pixel data to the LCD or DLP panel, and the lamp shutter opens to let light through the optical block. A break at any of those three steps gives you the same outward symptom, blank screen, and the diagnosis is in narrowing down which step stopped working.

Splash menu shows, no input
Projector menu and source list appear, but the moment you select HDMI or VGA the screen goes blank. Input-board or HDCP handshake fault, often a blown HDMI port.
HDMI input dead
Other source (laptop, set-top box) confirmed working but HDMI port shows no signal. Damaged HDMI socket, broken pin, or input-board chip failure.
Black image, lamp on
Lamp clearly lit (you can see light leaking from vents), fan running normally, but the projected image is pitch black. Lamp-shutter sensor or DMD-protect circuit fault.
Image flashes once then disappears
Initial second of picture appears at power-on, then screen blanks out. Panel-ribbon connector working loose under thermal expansion, or formatter chip dropping out.
Coloured patches but no picture
Faint coloured wash visible on screen but no real image. LCD panel or DMD chip not receiving formatter signal, ribbon cable likely unseated.
Status LED stuck blue or red
Power LED behaviour deviates from normal, sometimes blinking in a fault code. Logic-board diagnostic flag, the LED pattern decodes to a specific subsystem failure.

When the fan and lamp confirm the power stage is healthy but no picture reaches the screen, the fault sits in one of three subsystems: the input board (HDMI / VGA decode), the lamp-shutter or DMD-protect sensor, or the LCD / DLP panel ribbon. Diagnosis on a ₹149 visit narrows it down within 20-30 minutes.
Almost always a damaged HDMI socket on the projector side, either a bent pin, a cracked solder joint from inserting the cable at an angle, or a blown HDCP handshake chip on the input board. Repair by socket replacement and reflow runs ₹1,200-₹3,500 fitted.
The lamp is on but the optical shutter (or DMD-protect circuit) is blocking the light path, usually a failed lamp-shutter sensor or a hairline solder crack on the protect line. Sensor replacement runs ₹900-₹1,800, sensor reflow ₹600-₹1,200.

Yes, an under-voltage rail can power the fan and lamp but starve the formatter or input board. We check every secondary rail with a multimeter as part of the diagnosis. If a rail is sagging, power-board work runs ₹2,500-₹6,000.

For Ethernet: check the cable is fully seated at both ends, swap to a known-good cable, and confirm your laptop's Network Adapters list shows the projector's interface (Device Manager on Windows, Network preferences on Mac). A yellow warning icon means a driver conflict. If other devices on the same switch are working but the projector isn't, the projector's onboard network module has failed — board-level repair runs ₹1,800-₹4,500. For screen mirroring: most projectors need Screen Mirroring (Miracast) wireless mode, but iPhone and iPad need DLNA/AirPlay mode instead.
