Dead pixels or stuck mirrors on DLP?
DMD chip diagnosis, BGA reflow, mirror-cluster service and chip replacement at our workshop.
We diagnose and repair DLP chip (DMD) faults on projectors in Hyderabad — stuck pixels, dead mirror clusters and thermal-stress lift. BGA reflow and full DMD chip replacement, with pricing from ₹4,500 (cluster service) to ₹20,000 (full swap).

A DMD chip is a precision optical-MEMS die with mirrors smaller than a strand of hair. Each mirror sits on a hinge that flexes thousands of times per second. Heat stress, lamp UV exposure and electrical faults can cause individual mirrors to stick, hinge clusters to fail, or the BGA solder under the chip to crack. Dead pixels show as fixed black or white dots. Stuck clusters show as lines or rectangular blocks. A lifted BGA shows as flickering colour patches that change with thermal expansion.
Send a high-resolution photo of the projected image (white test pattern works best) to +91 7702503336, plus the model code. We tell you whether it's a BGA reflow case (₹6,000-₹10,000), a mirror-cluster issue (₹4,500-₹8,000) or a full chip replacement (₹10,000-₹20,000) before the unit comes in. DMD work happens at our Secunderabad workshop with hot-air station, microscope and clean-room handling.
Common Symptoms We See
Walk through any of these patterns and you're in the right place.
Dead pixel (black dot)
One or more permanent black dots in the projected image. Mirror stuck in the off position, sometimes recoverable with thermal cycling and BGA reflow, sometimes requires chip replacement.
Hot pixel (white / colour dot)
Permanent bright or coloured dot. Mirror stuck in the on position, harder to recover than a dead pixel, often points to a chip nearing end-of-life.
Lines or stripes
Horizontal or vertical line of dead pixels. Mirror cluster failure, usually a row or column driver issue. Mirror-cluster service runs ₹4,500-₹8,000.
Coloured artefact patches
Patches of wrong colour that shift with temperature. BGA solder under the DMD has cracked, reflow recovers most of these cases. ₹6,000-₹10,000 fitted.
Mirror-stuck full block
Rectangular block of pixels showing wrong colour or fully off. Multi-row driver failure or significant chip damage, usually full DMD replacement.
Convergence error in single colour
Service error referring to DMD or formatter, or one colour visibly out of register. Formatter-to-DMD interface issue, BGA reflow on either side recovers it.
How We Fix It
Four steps from WhatsApp message to working projector.
Send photo of test pattern
Project a white-screen test (slide with a blank white slide works), photograph at full resolution, and send the model code. We can identify dead pixels, stuck clusters and BGA artefacts from the photo. WhatsApp 7702503336.
Workshop intake and bench test
Collect from your address, intake at our Secunderabad workshop. Bench test under cold and warm conditions to confirm whether the fault is BGA-related (changes with temperature) or mirror-related (constant).
BGA reflow or chip replacement
Reflow first, full chip replacement only if reflow doesn't recover. DMD chips are precision parts and replacements are ₹10,000-₹20,000 depending on resolution (XGA / WXGA / 1080p / 4K UHD).
Calibrate, test on real content
After fitment we run convergence test patterns, motion content and a 30-minute thermal cycle. Confirm the dead pixels are gone, no new artefacts, no thermal-related shift. Then refit and hand back.
Transparent Pricing
Quoted on WhatsApp before we visit. Final on the invoice.
BGA reflow
Hot-air rework on the DMD BGA pads to recover cracked solder joints. Best outcome for thermal-shift artefacts and recently-developed dead pixels. Recovers about 60% of DMD faults without chip replacement.
Mirror-cluster service
Driver reflow, formatter-to-DMD ribbon repair, controller MCU work. For line and stripe faults where the chip itself is healthy but the driver path has failed.
DMD chip replacement
Full DMD chip replacement when reflow and driver work don't recover. Pricing depends on resolution: XGA ₹10,000-₹13,000, WXGA / 1080p ₹13,000-₹17,000, 4K UHD ₹17,000-₹20,000.
₹149 visit charge waived when you proceed with the repair. UPI / GPay / PhonePe / Paytm / cash accepted.
Why Projector Repair World
Two decades of projector specialisation, since 2007.
DMD chip-level work
Hot-air rework station with thermocouple-controlled profile, microscope, anti-static handling. DMD work needs precision gear, not a generic repair bench.
Reflow first, replace second
We reflow the BGA before quoting chip replacement, since reflow recovers about 6 in 10 DMD faults. Saves you the ₹10,000-₹20,000 chip-swap bill on most jobs.
₹149 visit, transparent quote
We diagnose first, quote the exact part number and price, and only then start work. ₹149 visit charge, waived on proceed.
Genuine OEM parts
We source parts from authorised distributors. We do not fit unbranded aftermarket components that compromise reliability or warranty.
Same-day or workshop
On-site fixes complete same day. Workshop board-level work runs 2-7 working days for parts and rework.
30-day warranty
30-day warranty on labour and replaced parts. If the same fault returns within 30 days we re-investigate at no charge.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most often, answered without filler.
₹10,000-₹20,000 fitted depending on resolution. XGA DMD chips ₹10,000-₹13,000. WXGA and 1080p ₹13,000-₹17,000. 4K UHD (XPR-shifted DMD) ₹17,000-₹20,000. We try BGA reflow (₹6,000-₹10,000) first since it recovers most cases without chip replacement. WhatsApp the model code for an exact quote.
Sometimes. A dead pixel from a freshly stuck mirror often clears with thermal cycling and BGA reflow. A dead pixel that's been there for months, or a hot pixel (stuck on), is much harder to recover and usually requires chip replacement.
The rainbow effect itself is a perception phenomenon and not chip-related. But if it's getting worse, the actual cause is usually color-wheel timing slip or a formatter-to-DMD ribbon issue, not the DMD chip itself. We diagnose to be sure before quoting chip work.
Depends on the cost ratio. If the DMD replacement quote is more than 50% of a comparable new projector, replacement is cheaper. Boardroom and education projectors with high lamp hours usually justify the chip work, home-cinema units often don't.
BGA reflow and mirror-cluster service: 2-5 working days at our Secunderabad workshop. Full DMD chip replacement: 5-10 working days subject to OEM parts availability. We give you a fixed date when we accept the job.
Yes. UV exposure over thousands of hours degrades the mirror-hinge polymer and the protective glass coating. Lamps run past their rated hours expose the chip to higher UV than spec. One reason we recommend timely lamp replacement, the lamp protects the DMD.
Yes, we repair the XPR-shifted 0.47-inch DMD used in most 4K UHD home-cinema and education projectors. Pricing is ₹17,000-₹20,000 fitted. The mechanical XPR shifter is a separate part and rarely needs replacement at the same time.
At our Secunderabad workshop, Flat 115, Tirupati Complex, Opp Paradise, MG Road. DMD work needs hot-air rework, microscope and clean-room handling that's not feasible on a customer site. We collect, repair, test, and deliver back.
